Troubleshooting
Here are the most common problems people run into, and how to fix them.
The chat says "Offline"
This means Lumy can't reach your AI model.
- Open Settings → LLM Settings.
- Click Test Connection.
- If it fails:
- Using a local server (LM Studio / Ollama)? Make sure the server is actually running. In LM Studio, open the "Local Server" tab and click Start.
- Using a cloud provider? Check your API key and your internet connection.
See AI setup for the full walkthrough.
The agent can't find my files
The agent only sees the folder you currently have open.
- Make sure you're in the right folder in the File Organizer.
- If the files are on a drive that isn't indexed yet, the agent may not find them quickly. Open Indexing and index that drive.
- Navigate to the folder that contains the files you're looking for, then ask again.
Disk Usage shows nothing
The Disk Usage map only works for drives that have been indexed.
- Go to Indexing.
- Select the drive.
- Click Start Indexing.
- Once the scan completes, Disk Usage will show the map.
My language change didn't apply
- Lumy needs a restart to apply a new language. When you pick a language, a dialog offers a one-click restart — click Yes.
- If you skipped it, close and reopen Lumy manually.
I made a mistake — I want to undo
- Open History & Restore.
- Find the task (newest tasks are at the top) and click Undo Task.
- This reverses the action (for example, moves files back to where they were).
- If you already cleared history, your files are still in the Recycle Bin — you can recover them from Windows.
Indexing is taking forever
- For very large drives (1 TB and up), the first scan can take hours. That's normal.
- You can keep using Lumy while indexing runs — other drives are unaffected.
- To stop a scan, click the cancel button on the indexing card.
The app is using a lot of memory
Lumy uses a lot of memory by design:
- It keeps a SQLite index, AI model connections, and the .NET runtime loaded.
- Expect 200–500 MB for a moderate workload. That's normal and not a problem.
- Indexing many large drives at once increases memory use temporarily.
An update is available — what do I do?
- Open Settings → Check for Updates.
- Follow the prompts to download and install the new version.
- Your data is preserved — updates never delete your files or history.
Something else went wrong
If you hit an error, Lumy writes it to a log file you can share for help:
- The log lives at
%LocalAppData%\LumyDesktop\logs\errors.log - You can open it by pasting that path into the Windows Run dialog (:kbd{value="Win"} + :kbd{value="R"})
