Common tasks

Here are step-by-step recipes for the most common things you'll do with Lumy. Each one works with the AI assistant in the File Organizer.

You can type these requests in any language — the agent understands you and answers in the same language.

Find and remove duplicate files

  1. Open File Organizer and navigate to the folder you want to clean.
  2. In the chat, type: "Find duplicate files in this folder"
  3. The agent searches, lists the duplicates, and offers to delete them (to the Recycle Bin) or move them aside.
  4. Review the suggestion and click the numbered card to execute.
  5. To undo, go to History & Restore and click Undo Task.

Archive old files to a zip and delete the originals

  1. Navigate to the folder in File Organizer.
  2. Type: "Find all files older than 1 year and archive them to a zip called Archive-2024, then move the originals to the Recycle Bin"
  3. The agent will find the files, create the zip, and recycle the originals (reversible).
  4. Click the suggested action card to execute.
  5. Check History & Restore to undo if needed.

Auto-rename invoices

  1. Navigate to a folder with PDF or Word invoice files.
  2. Type: "Rename all invoices in this folder using the format YYYY-MM-DD_Vendor_Amount"
  3. The agent reads each invoice, pulls out the date, vendor name, and total, then renames the files.
  4. Click the suggested action card to execute.
  5. Undo from History & Restore if you don't like the result.

The agent reads the text inside each document to figure out the date, vendor, and amount. It works best with clear, scanned-free PDFs and Word docs.

Free up disk space

  1. Open System Overview and look for a drive with a red ring — that's your fullest drive.
  2. Click Disk Usage in the sidebar.
  3. Select the full drive.
  4. Look at the map — the biggest rectangles are your largest folders.
  5. Click into the biggest folder to see what's inside.
  6. Right-click it and choose Ask AI to jump to the File Organizer with a pre-filled analysis prompt.

Organize your Downloads folder by file type

  1. Click Downloads in the Quick Access sidebar.
  2. Type: "Organize this folder by creating subfolders for each file type (Documents, Images, Videos, Archives, Others) and moving files into them"
  3. The agent analyzes the folder, proposes a structure, and shows a numbered card to execute.
  4. Click the card to execute.
  5. Undo from History & Restore if you change your mind.

Clean Windows temp and Recycle Bin

  1. Open System Overview.
  2. Click the Recycle Bin card → confirm → watch the live progress.
  3. Click the Windows Temp card → confirm → watch the live progress.
  4. Click the Crash Dumps / Logs card → confirm → watch the live progress.

Each cleanup asks for confirmation first. Files go to the Recycle Bin, so you can still recover them if needed.

Search across all your indexed files

  1. Make sure the drives you want to search are indexed — see Indexing.
  2. Open File Organizer and navigate to the parent folder.
  3. Use the search box (top-right) for simple name searches.
  4. For powerful queries, use the chat: "Find all PDFs containing the word 'invoice' from 2024"

Switch to a different AI model

  1. Open Settings → LLM Settings.
  2. Change the Provider (for example, from LM Studio to OpenAI).
  3. Update the API Key if needed.
  4. Click Test Connection to refresh the model list.
  5. Pick the new model from the dropdown.

Change the app language

  1. Open Settings → Language.
  2. Pick a language from the dropdown.
  3. A dialog asks if you want to restart now — click Yes.

Use Lumy fully offline

  1. Install LM Studio (or Ollama).
  2. Download a model (any chat model works; 7B is a good balance).
  3. Start the local server.
  4. In Settings → LLM Settings, choose LM Studio as the provider.
  5. Click Test Connection — it should succeed with no internet.
  6. Use the File Organizer chat normally. Nothing leaves your machine.

With a local model, Lumy works completely offline and privately — no account, no internet, no telemetry.
