Privacy & data
Lumy is designed around one principle: your files and your data stay on your computer. Here's exactly how that works.
What stays local
- Your files — Lumy never uploads your files anywhere, for any reason.
- File indexes — the searchable catalog of each drive is stored on your PC.
- History — the record of every AI action is stored on your PC.
- Settings — your preferences are stored on your PC.
Where data is stored
| Data | Location |
|---|---|
| Drive indexes | %AppData%\LumyDesktop\ — one file per indexed drive |
| History & Restore log | %AppData%\LumyDesktop\history.db |
| Settings & language | Lumy's application data folder (%LocalAppData%\LumyDesktop\) |
The AI model
- Local models (LM Studio, Ollama) — your chat messages are processed entirely on your PC. Nothing leaves your machine.
- Cloud models (OpenAI, OpenRouter, Anthropic) — when you use a cloud provider, the text of your chat messages is sent to that provider to be processed. This also includes the extracted text of any document you ask the agent to read.
The choice is yours: use a local model and everything stays on your PC, or use a cloud model and your chat text goes to that provider. Lumy never sends your data anywhere by default.
No telemetry
Lumy does not:
- Track your usage
- Collect analytics
- "Phone home" with reports
- Show targeted ads
There is no tracking code in the app.
Deletions
- Lumy always uses the Windows Recycle Bin for deletions. Nothing is permanently deleted unless you empty the Recycle Bin yourself.
- This means deleted files remain recoverable — by you — after Lumy has removed them.
What you can do
- Use local models to keep everything offline and private.
- Review your history anytime in History & Restore.
- Delete your indexes per drive from the Indexing page.
- Uninstall Lumy to remove the app and its stored data (your actual files are never touched).
