Glossary
Simple definitions of the terms used throughout this documentation and in Lumy.
A
Agent / AI assistant The part of Lumy that understands your plain-language requests and does file work for you. It uses an AI model you choose.
Auto-Rescan A per-drive setting that makes Lumy automatically re-scan a drive in the background whenever its free space changes by more than 1% of its total capacity.
C
Cloud model An AI model that runs on a provider's servers (OpenAI, OpenRouter, Anthropic). Your chat text is sent to that provider to be processed.
D
Disk map / treemap The colorful chart on the Disk Usage page where bigger rectangles mean bigger folders.
F
File Organizer The section of Lumy that shows a file browser on the left and the AI chat panel on the right.
Full disk / index A searchable catalog of a drive's files built by the Indexing feature. The engine that makes Lumy searches fast.
H
History & Restore The safety-net page that records every action the agent takes and lets you undo them.
I
Indexing Scanning a drive to build a searchable catalog of its contents.
L
Local model An AI model that runs entirely on your own computer (via LM Studio or Ollama). Private and offline.
P
Provider The service that hosts your AI model — LM Studio, Ollama, OpenAI, OpenRouter, or Anthropic.
Q
Quick Access The shortcuts on the left of the File Organizer that jump to common folders (Downloads, Desktop, Pictures, and so on).
R
Recycle Bin Windows' built-in "trash". Lumy sends deleted files here instead of permanently deleting them, so you can always recover them.
Recipe A step-by-step set of instructions for a common task, like those on the Common tasks page.
S
System Overview The dashboard that appears when Lumy opens — a summary of your PC's health and cleanup options.
T
Task One request you made to the agent (for example, "archive old PDFs"). A task contains one or more operations.
Telemetry Automatic reporting of how you use software. Lumy has none.
Troubleshooting Finding and fixing problems. See the Troubleshooting page.
U
Undo Reversing an action. In Lumy, done from the History & Restore page.
