Uninstall Programs

The Uninstall Programs dialog gives you more control over the programs listed in Windows' Add/Remove Programs than the standard Control Panel does.

What it does

Action What it does
Run Uninstaller Runs the selected application's own uninstaller.
Rename Entry Changes the display name shown for the application in Add/Remove Programs.
Delete Entry Removes the application's entry from the uninstall list in the registry.
Search Filter Types a name and filters the list to matching programs.

Safety

Delete Entry only removes the listing — it does not uninstall the program. The application will no longer appear in Add/Remove Programs, which means you cannot uninstall it normally afterward. Always run the real uninstaller first; only delete an entry for programs that are already gone but still listed.

Use Rename Entry for cosmetic fixes, such as cleaning up a garbled display name, without touching the actual program.

  1. Run Uninstaller to remove a program properly.
  2. If a ghost entry remains after uninstalling, use Delete Entry to remove the leftover listing.
