Desktop Tuning

The Desktop Tuning page adds convenient shortcuts and small Windows tweaks that are not available by default.

What it can do

Creates a desktop shortcut or hotkey for the Safely Remove Hardware dialog, so you can eject USB drives without opening the tray icon. You can assign a hotkey through the shortcut's properties.

Adds a desktop shortcut that opens the Network and Sharing Center directly.

Stops Windows from automatically restarting after installing updates, so you can choose when to restart.

Lets you change the Windows logon screen background by picking a JPG or PNG image. The image is resized to your screen resolution automatically. A Restore Default button puts the original back.

Makes the logon text shadow lighter or darker so text stays readable on bright or dark logon backgrounds.

Safety

These are simple, reversible tweaks:

  • Shortcuts can be deleted like any other shortcut.
  • The logon screen image can be restored with Restore Default.
  • Nothing here deletes user files.
