Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to clean my system?

WinSysClean only removes items it has verified as safe. Files currently in use are never touched, and anything uncertain is skipped and left out of the scan report. Even so, it is good practice to create a restore point before a clean.

Will I lose my passwords if I clean?

Only if you choose to. Clearing browser cookies and stored passwords removes them. Cache and history cleaning never touch passwords. Review the switches in Browser Cleaning Options before cleaning.

How does the update check work?

WinSysClean checks for new versions periodically (by default once a week) and when you choose Check for Updates from the menu. If an update is available and your license allows it, you are asked whether to download and install it. The downloaded installer is verified against the checksum published by the server before it runs.

You can turn the automatic weekly check off in Options — check the box "Check for new versions".

Why does the scan report show fewer items than the progress window?

Because WinSysClean skips anything that may not be safe to remove. Skipped items are not displayed in the report and are not counted in the totals.

Do I need to restart after cleaning?

Usually not. The one exception is Windows Run History in the registry repair options — Windows rebuilds that list until the next restart.

Why does WinSysClean need administrator rights?

Cleaning system folders, the registry, the Recycle Bin, and other protected areas requires administrator permissions. WinSysClean elevates itself when it starts.

Can I schedule cleaning while I am away?

Yes. Use the Advanced Scheduler to run a clean at a specific time — it works even when WinSysClean is not running.

I bought a license. How do I activate?

Enter your license key and matching e-mail in the activation dialog. Activation happens online and stores your license locally so the app keeps working offline.

How many computers can I activate?

That depends on your license. The standard license includes several activation slots (the activation dialog shows how many are in use). Free up a slot by deactivating an old machine before activating a new one.

What is the difference between Freeware and PRO?

The Freeware edition is free but has a reduced feature set. PRO unlocks all cleaning options, the full application cleaner, and licensed updates. See the License page for the comparison.

Something is acting up after a clean. What can I do?

  1. Restore the system from a restore point if you made one.
  2. Reinstall the affected program — cleaning never uninstalls software, but a program may rebuild its own cache and settings.
  3. If registry repairs caused the issue, restore your registry backup.
